Me: Hey, Makan! Great to meet you finally. It’s an honor you doing this interview for Gentleman Zone! How have you been?
Makan: Hello, Evgeni! Nice to meet you, it’s pleasure doing this for you and your brand Gentleman Zone.
Me: Thank you, let’s start with the basics. Tell us something about yourself. Who are you, what you do, and what made you start sharing your style on Instagram out of the blue and totally bossing this thing?
First, my name is Makan. I’m from Hannover, Germany and I’m self-employed in the insurance & finance industry since 2007. Since the summer of 2016, I decided to present my strong passion for fashion to the world on my Instagram account – @makanveli. My Style is a mix of modern casual styles and old Italian tailored clothing. For 2017 I have planned many high quality and creative shootings, for example, Milan-Italy in April, to reach my organic engagement. The focus of my pictures is high quality and a perfect fit of my clothing and recently I launched my personal website www.makanveli.com where everyone interested in my style can shop my look and take a look at what I wear.
Great! Wonderful. One thing that really interests me is what was your first experience wearing a suit? You are obviously rocking beautifully tailored pieces. Describe it to us.
It was a feeling of responsibility. A suit don’t make you to a better person, rather the contrary. I felt obliged to work harder as before. To be a better man from before. It’s like my favorite Marvel figure ‘Iron Man / Tony Stark’. After he slip into his Iron Man suit, he has the responsibility to be the ‘best’ and without his suit he has to be the best too, as Tony Stark.
Love that Tony Stark reference! Immediately there is another question in my mind. What made you interested in fashion and style in the first place?
Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak. It’s your personal ‘business card’ and the way to expose how great you are. My slogan is always ‘Come in everything you do from the shadows with a boom 💥 and be the best‘! That means you have to prepare your project perfectly, so the result always has to be like an explosion.
So, what is the outfit that can make you come from the shadows with a boom? What is the best outfit a man can invest his money into in your opinion?
Surprise surprise …a well tailored suit with beautiful matching shoes and a belt in the same color as the shoes.
And with the outfit comes the attitude. What is the best advice you would give to any man?
Less talk! Let success make the noise.
Beautifull. There is humility in your words but still, you are not hiding your success. I can feel the ambition you have only trough talking with you. So, I wonder what ‘self-improvement’ means to you?
My first thought about self-improvement is always – Stay hungry. I’m a perfectionist and I am never satisfied because I know there is always a way to do it better. Therefore I try to be better and better every new day. For example, before we take the picture for Instagram, I think very fastidious about the aesthetics what the picture have to express.
We can all see this by the content you produce. It’s among the highest quality on Instagram.
Let’s get a bit more personal. People often say mornings define the day, What is the first thing you do in the morning?
…checking my Instagram account, I’m just joking 😉 The first thing I do in the morning is I keep telling myself: ‘Success is my only option, failure is not. No weakness today – Power.’
Amazing! What is the thing that makes you start your morning with such ambition? What motivates you?
Family.
And who is the person you accept as your mentor trough life? Is it perhaps someone from your family?
Absolutely! My mother and my father. Because they are the living proof that real love, honesty, and loyalty really exist. I come from a humble background because my parents are not rich. But everything I built and reached in my life, I built with the old values that I learned in my parents house. It was the best school I ́ve ever had. And you know, that old values are very rare and be worth a mint these days.
Beautiful! I love your honesty in these questions. I feel this is enough for your personal life.
Again, going to clothes, what do you think is the most versatile garment a man can own.
Shoes.
As the saying goes “Show me your shoes and I’ll tell you who you are”. The shoes of a man tell you a lot about his character. And every gentleman knows that shoes speak louder than words.
And one last question, my friend. What is your favorite garment?
A well-tailored blazer, my friend.
