Learn To Say “No”

Every day we spend and enormous amount of time doing something we either don’t care about, isn’t our job and we don’t want to do. And why you ask? Simple, because you just can’t say no! In our society denying a request to a colleague, a friend or even your boss is considered unethical.
Well, I’m going to tell it to you – it isn’t!

Always helping someone, or doing their job will leave you with no time for yourself. Ask yourself if having no personal time is healthy! And then ask yourself if being unethical is more important than your well being!

I think you’ve already figured out the answer.

Of course there will be a time when people will talk that you are acting like an asshole, not wanting to help them, but this will go for a month tops! After that people will just accept that you have your own value system and they will continue to live their lives as before, just like nothing happened.

Of course there are times that you should say “yes”, but they should be at their minimum. You might say that you are not a type of person that says “no”, and to that I’d say I don’t believe you! Why? Because wasting your time for someone else is making you unhappy. Just imagine you saying no to your colleague when he asks you finish a given assignment because he has the so’ important work to have a drink with his buddies, and instead of spending your entire night at the office, busting your ass working, oyu go to your family, kids, girlfriend and you spend the night with them.
Sounds good isn’t it?
And all you had to do is say a simple “on”!

Don’t get me wrong, to some people that are really important to you, you must say yes. But does Bob from the office really deserve your time? All I say is ask yourself. You’ll know what to do!

Just to clear some things, this rule can be applied to every day tasks easily. A lot of the stuff on this blog, specifically under “Lifestyle“, can be used in multiple situations!

See you on the next one…
